One Month and 14 Days

All packed and ready to go.
As of today we have one month and 14 days till our plane takes off. On one hand this summer is flying by (I have so much to do!) on the other hand, it’s a slow, painful crawl.

Last month I got laid off from my job, but I was able to go back to my former 9-5 job for a month to make a little last minute cash. It’s nice to be able to make the money, but really, it’s painful. It sucks up so much of my time and energy that when the weekend comes, I barely can relax and clear my mind enough to think about what big projects still needs to get done. It also felt like a big step backwards when all I want to do is run straight ahead.

But the light is getting very bright at the end of the tunnel, and to keep myself from despair, I try to do one travel related thing a day. Some days it is just to tweak the budget a little, other days it’s exploring hostels or reading up on blogs. But the other day I did something very practical.

I packed my toiletries bag.

You’re probably laughing, but really, you shouldn’t. I mean, psychologically, I feel so excited. Toiletries are usually the last items packed for a trip, but because I am starting out with a fresh bottle of everything, and a brand new toiletries bag, I figured why not? It’s getting more real now.

The Five Books I Keep Returning To

As a (attempting) minimalist, and a traveler who has no permanent home base, I try to keep as little stuff as possible, which is quite a feat given that I have natural pack rat tendencies, and enjoy collections (hello spoons of the world). Books are one of the most common
