Most of the American teachers here didn’t even realize Thanksgiving was at hand (“When is it again?” asked one America…last night) but thanks to my culture class I’ve been on the ball with holidays as my students are interested in learning the traditions of western holidays.
Aside from the history of Thanksgiving I shared some bits of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Obama pardoning a turkey and even some frightening Black Friday videos. After they all shared when they were thankful for this year we did one final Thanksgiving tradition…Hand Turkeys!
So what am I grateful for this year? Well, it’s been a big year full of changes so I’ll just keep it simple and say I’m grateful for my life. My strange, crazy, never certain life. As you read this I’m on a bus, with a friend, heading to Shanghai for the second time this semester to spend some time seeing new things and meeting up with some amazing friends. Everyone I am spending time with over the next few days are people I didn’t even know 6 months ago, and people I never expected to meet much less have such a close connection. So while it will be another turkey free thanksgiving for me, I’m grateful where I am and what I’m doing.
I hope wherever you are, you can say the same. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
