Out and About With My ipod – Writer. Traveler. Tea Drinker.

I have been the owner of a 4g ipod touch for several weeks now and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. I carry it around with me everywhere and is close to me even at night. (That’s because our alarm clock died and until we get a new battery we have been using the ipod alarm to wake us up.)
Whether I’m walking to class listening to music, looking up new words in the dictionary to communicate, or wasting the minutes between class with a game of boggle, my ipod gets some heavy use.
One feature I didn’t think much about before, but love now, is the camera. It’s not a high quality camera, but it assures that I have a camera with me at all times so I can capture the funny, mundane, or silly things I come across. There have been many, many times when I have wished that I had a camera with me, and now, I do!
I’ve often found myself wanting the camera during class time. After all, I spend a lot of time in the classroom, and yet don’t have many pictures to show for it. That’s mainly because, well, I’m teaching, and don’t have time to take pics. But I also don’t want to make the students feel self conscious and pull out a camera during presentations or something. But they are used to camera phones (and often take pictures during class themselves) so they don’t mind, or notice, when I take it out for a few pics.

I’ve also been spending some time with my Chinese class classmates. The other day we all got together to play some badminton and between rounds I found some time to take out the ipod.

Abu from Japan. — When Abu, who is from Japan, saw this he laughed at his pose and said it was a very traditional Japanese pose.

I also now have a camera on me when I come across some unexpected sights. Like the other day as I was walking to English Corner I came across dozens of tables set up with thousands of pieces of food on them. Turns out it was a type of food festival that had free food for the students. I left before they were allowed to eat any, but I heard the students rushed and within just a minute all 3,000 pieces of food were gone.
