Several months ago my credit card expired and I got a new one. That’s not a big deal except for the fact that in preparing for years of travel, I set up many bills to be paid automatically through the credit card and I had to remember the list of companies to call to inform them of the new number and expiration date.
Despite my best efforts it seems I forgot one little teeny-eentsy company, the merchant account for the credit cards to the store on the Moo-Cow website. A few months of past due bills (which I was unaware of) and they cancelled my account. So no more credit cards could be accepted on the web.
Then we came across another problem. For some reason our user name and login for the store stopped working. It was an open source free store so there was no help, or administrators to beg to unlock it. We couldn’t even access the names and addresses of any orders, much less process them.
It seems the internet gods wanted our Moo-Cow store closed, so we obliged. Several weeks ago we took it offline. But we have books and magazines to sell and needed to figure out another way.
I’ve been experimenting with different store plugins to be used with wordpress and what you now see here is my little attempt at an online store. On the top menu of every page on my website it says Store. Also, you can see the cover of my first book on the left hand side over there, and if you click on either of those you can buy my first book! (Go on, click on it, I’ll wait…) I bit the bullet and am now using Paypal to process the payment.
I’ll be experimenting with adding some new things from time to time (which I’m sure I’ll announce) and my new book will be up there the second it is on sale (Nov 9th, mark your calendars). Our large store on Moo-Cow has been burned to ashes. And from those ashes my teeny, tiny store phoenix has emerged.
