Our University

The University we teach at is called Zheijang Forestry University and true to its name, there is a lot of forest and natural beauty surrounding it. The campus is landscaped and planted, and trimmed and some spots are amazingly gorgeous.

This bridge cuts across the lake and makes our walk much shorter. Of course it makes ALL the students walk shorter and between classes it is packed!

We spent the first several weeks just exploring the campus and finding all the little nooks and scenic spots. I think we’ve got a lot more to explore though and hopefully we will do some hiking in the mountains that surround the school soon.

The residents of Lin’an, the town we are in, often come to the school in the evening with their family and walk around and use the campus almost like a park.

We’ve been biking a lot and even while zipping around we’ve found scenic pathways and new roads to explore. This campus is huge!

This is a Forestry University and there are several kinds of bamboo that are grown in the bamboo forest. Supposedly there are some rare bamboo species but since I can't read Chinese I can't read the info cards in the forest.

We are also lucky because our apartment is on the edge of campus and next to a small bit of green land that is farmed by teachers and teachers parents.

We're on the third floor at the end of the building. We even have two balconies!

    Hi neighbors in far away places—
    I finally remembered to check in on you–the photos of where you are in China, are beautiful and I am VERY wishful I could have stowed away in one of your suitcases…
    I am so happy you made the choice to teach there and leave the cold, chilly, snowy, icy, cold, damp, raw, –of Peterborough behind..
    Your house is constantly puffing away with the wood stove burning and I can now actually “see” [your house], since all the leaves are down and weeds are dead.
    I really wish you would mention your wonderful neighbors and her friendly dogs in your website (hahahahah)—BTW-Matthew broke his arm in September and is on his 3rd cast–(skateboarding accident)-he’s just about “had it’ with the cast-(it’s his left and he’s a lefty)
    Maybe when you come back to our town you can buy my house and I can get out of here and move to where the sun shines every day and I am free of COLD WEATHER!!!!

      Hi Diane–thanks for reading! I’m glad to see that our house is staying happy and warm. I don’t want to make you too jealous but it is in the 60’s here right now. 😉 I am so glad that we aren’t back home right now because the cold weather and snow was driving me bonkers as well.
