Pardon The Dust

Hey there, remember me? I know it’s been awhile since I’ve updated here, but I also hope you have been following me on my Youtube channel Badminton Becky. I made 2 videos a week, and tend to talk mostly about badminton, but some general videos about China get in there every now and then (like this one about visiting Jinmen, Taiwan, and this one about some strange Chinese snacks).

In a few days it is going to be my 10th Chinaversary. I believe it was Aug 30th, 2009 when I stepped off the plane to Shanghai to begin my new life and adventure in China. Back then I was married, had a business, cats, a house and ZERO intention of staying China for more than one year. Well, look at me now!

Literally, look at me! Not only did my personality change a lot, but so did my body. Needless to say, I’m healthier now in my 40’s than I was in my 30’s!

Obviously I can’t let being an expat for a decade go by without marking it, and I had big plans for this blog, including a new look, updating old posts, new posts about lessons learned over the past decade, and more than a month ago I started doing it….almost.

Nothing worked. I couldn’t change the colors or layout of my blog, I couldn’t update ANYTHING on my site, even old blog post, even pictures wouldn’t load. So I had to hire a guy to fix it for me, and that took a few weeks. Now it’s fixed, but ugly, and the new semester is about to start, so I have less time.

Instagram, or smart phones, barely existed when I stared this blog (and I didn’t get a smart phone until my 4th year here) so now I can go back and improve old photos.

But, I am not cursed with a perfectionist streak, so the show must go on, ugly website or not. I’m going to try to customize it and make it look good, and if I can’t do that soon (or at all–maybe I’ll hire someone) so be it. I’ll still start working on the posts and the fixing up the old ones. (After 10 years there is a lot of crap, broken links, ugly pics etc) And I’ll be making some videos on my Youtube Channel about it too (Seriously, why have you not subscribed yet?)

So pardon the dust on this website as it goes through regular changes, but don’t let that discourage you from coming back and checking out all the new content that will be coming soon!

Here We Go Again!

Bored, playing around on my computer the other day, I started looking through old bookmarks on my browser. Since I have been an Apple user for a long time, whenever I get a new device or computer, it copies everything over automatically and I have bookmarked websites I haven’t looked

The Five Books I Keep Returning To

As a (attempting) minimalist, and a traveler who has no permanent home base, I try to keep as little stuff as possible, which is quite a feat given that I have natural pack rat tendencies, and enjoy collections (hello spoons of the world). Books are one of the most common
