A Walk Through Hong Kong's Outdoor Markets

One of the best things to do, when you go to a new place, is put on your walking shoes and go. There is no better way to learn about a place, and see unique sights, then by walking. One day I stepped out of the subway and started walking. I ended up wandering through several markets all with different themes. Join me on a photo journey through the markets of Hong Kong!

First up, the Hong Kong fish market. Thousands of fish, fish bowls and other accessories out for display along the street.

There were giant tanks full of different fish as well. The street was just as entertaining as any aquarium and free!

In some places you can pick your own and scoop them out yourself.

Walking down the street a little I saw a bunch of people carrying plants, bundles of flowers and special arrangements for Spring Festival. I walked in the direction of where they were coming and stumbled upon a flowers market.
Each place had it's own specialty and was filled with a specific style or type of flower.

It's always nice to see bright vibrant flowers in the middle of winter.

Chirp, chirp! What’s that? Why, it’s a bird market located right next to the flower market.
The bird market is located in a little park with lots of free birds. I felt like that was a little mean to these caged birds, especially as the wild birds were eating the seed all around the caged birds cages.

Like a little birdy high rise.

Now it’s been a few hours, the sun has set, and it’s time to refuel before continuing. One of my favorite features of Hong Kong is the diners. Just like American diners these places are lit with neon and lots of mirrors, and serve a variety of asian foods. I got some noodles with beef and vietnamese spring rolls. Ahhhhh…..

Nom, nom, nom.
Nom, nom, nom.

Allright, continuing on. Time for the famous Stanley Market, a place packed and selling just about anything you could possibly want, all at a “special price, just for you.”
Packed on a weekday night.

Then it’s time to end the night with a little snacking on the street. Even though it looks rudimentary these restaurants served everything from fancy seafood to dumplings. It’s a good chance to try some local food and go over your purchases.
