The Blue Skies of the Grasslands of Inner Mongolia

Where I live in China, the pollution isn’t so bad. I’m not in a major city and the campus is surrounded by green, tree-filled mountains which helps to clean the air. Sometimes, I can even see stars at night.
But one trip to Inner Mongolia reminded me what I’m missing. Despite being close to Beijing (about 7 hours by bus) the grasslands of Inner Mongolia might as well be a whole ‘nother planet. The blue skies were amazing and the air was fresh and clear. Here are some pictures of our day spent in the isolated grasslands of Inner Mongolia. Montana’s nickname might be Big Sky Country, but I think Inner Mongolia might give them a run for their money.

The small homestead of some Mongolian farmers being crushed by the weight of the sky.

The homestead we visited, seen from afar.

The wall can keep the sheep in but not keep the sky out.

That day, the god was pleased and there was no smiting.

Eat your heart out Montana!
