Some Chinese Animation

I recently discovered some really impressive animated shorts made by art students in China and I wanted to share them.
This first one, called The Big Girl, is an action packed fight scene around an actual apartment. Not only is the animation great and the story creative but it’s a good way to see what’s inside a Chinese person’s apartment. We also have socks and underwear hanging up and I would love a little animated supergirl to use it to help her rescue her love.

Here’s one that is stop-motion (my favorite style of animation) and while it isn’t as flashy as the other one, I love the characters and the traditional hutong setting.

This one is slightly psychedelic. You could tell me that this was made by a French person in the 70’s and I would believe you. (Despite the narrator speaking Chinese the intonation combined with the background music totally gives off a French vibe.) I also like the human beat boxer on the closing credits.

These days Chinese people aren’t known as the world’s most creative people (rather China is renown for piracy and knockoff’s) but after seeing just a few samples of recent animation I think we can all agree that is definitely changing, and changing fast.
