April Fool's Day

I expected that my students would know about the major western holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, but I’m surprised at how much they know about our minor holidays. They love Valentine’s Day and of course, they seem to know all about April Fool’s Day. I had one class today and was debating whether I should pull a prank. (It is a writing class and I thought I could “assign” them a 2,000 word essay paper.) I decided against it at the last minute because these things never work out for me and I’d probably end up making someone cry.
But I was warned yesterday that I had a master prankster in the class. ( Last year she told all the boys they had to wear their uniforms to school and they didn’t realize they had been had until they arrived at class. ) So I was on my toes.
“It’s April Fool’s Day today!” I said at the beginning of class. They all laughed and cheered. “And I heard you are too good at pulling pranks.” They laughed some more.
“So today, I will not believe a single thing anyone tells me!” I said and they all laughed again. “I’ll believe anything you tell me tomorrow, but not today.”
“You look beautiful today,” yelled a girl in the back.

    awesome!
Here were the “pranks” my class pulled:
    1) I come back from a lunch meeteing, and (GASP!) everyone is lying DEAD on the floor! Oh no! What? You’re not dead? Phew!
    2) “Mr. Chase, can you sit in your chair?” asks Tobi
    “What?” says I.
“Sit down, you, um, look tired.”
“Tobi, I am late for a rehearsal for the 4th grade show. I can’t sit down.”
“No, really, you look like you need a 5 second break.”
“Tobi,” begins I, then I glance at my chair and see my jacket on it with a suspicious lump in the middle…she went to all that trouble, I guess I’d better oblige, “Ok, you’re right, I’ll sit for a second.”
    I sits.
    “PHBBTHTHTSSSS” goes the whoopie cushion
    “Hahahahahahahaha” goes the class
“Goodness,” says I, “Ya got me!”
    3) I come back from playing bass in the 4th grade show (where one of the 4th graders mistakenly called me Mr. Bass…..now that’s cool), and Where’s my class? Oh, they’re all hiding in the room. One kid is standing in the middle with a box on his head….quite funny, actually.
