Moo-Cow Book Review

Sword of the Ramurai

We got a very nice book review for Sword of the Ramurai from The Reading Tub. What’s nice about this is it wasn’t reviewed by an adult or a reading expert, but rather by a real family with two young kids. It’s nice to get not only the parent’s perspective but each child’s different opinion.
Here is an excerpt of the review. (To read the whole thing click here.)

Little Kid Reaction: We started reading this as a bedtime story, so we would read a couple chapters each night. Without fail, our daughter would ask for extra reading and several nights was motivated to read by herself so she could find out what happened. When the story stopped to tell us what the characters were wearing or doing, she would ask us to stop and look at the front cover again. She really wanted to visualize what was happening.

Big Kid Reaction: This is a great story. Ramses is the bully and he takes up a lot of space; but his friends know how to deal with him and kids can see an example of what works in cowing a bully. The story moves quickly with plenty of action. I liked the inserts with factual information, though my daughter didn’t want to stop for that level of detail.

The Five Books I Keep Returning To

As a (attempting) minimalist, and a traveler who has no permanent home base, I try to keep as little stuff as possible, which is quite a feat given that I have natural pack rat tendencies, and enjoy collections (hello spoons of the world). Books are one of the most common
